Strategic Plan:

  • Training undergraduate and post-graduate medical students.
  • Capacity building of the professional personnel e.g. professors, lecturers and assistant professors.
  • Conducting scientific researches.
  • Improving foreign language skills of the KMU staff.
  • Standardizing teaching and pedagogic methodologies.
  • Updating curriculums of medical faculties on regular basis including the nursing faculty.
  • Harmonizing Para-clinic, public health and clinical related departments and subjects.
  • Improving lectures, presentations and practical works for students and trainees.
  • Coordinating and exchanging teaching materials with international medical institutions.
  • Equipping departments and laboratories.
  • Renovating respective hospitals and teaching departments.
  • Constructing new buildings for teaching hospitals and nursing faculty.
  • Setting standards for hospital management by adopting MOPH hospital management standards.
  • Reforming (KMU and related hospitals) administration systems.
  • Improving administrative and logistic services.
  • Equipping classrooms with modern teaching materials and instruments.
  • Standardizing examination and evaluation systems.
  • Arranging transportation to students from KMU to related teaching hospitals.
  • Arranging facilities for students of the nursing faculty.
  • Improving and standardizing learning materials for students of the faculty of medicine.
  • Preparing (developing) learning materials for students of the nursing faculty.

 

Outcomes:

  • Qualified general practitioners from various faculties of KMU.
  • Medical professionals through conducting specialization programs.
  • Health services through teaching hospitals for people.
  • Performed researches.

 

Plans for the Next 10 Years:

Current Plan:

  • Conducting academic conferences at each department level.
  • Conducting at least two TOT courses/workshops on teaching methodology for KMU lecturers.
  • Recruiting professionals from abroad to train the KMU Professors.

 

Next three Years:

  • Ten scholarships for master’s degree and five scholarships for PhD for different medical disciplines every year.
  • At least 60 short term scholarships for different departments.
  • 10 capacity building related scholarships for lab technicians.
  • Settlement of various departments to their related faculties to revise the structure, organo-gram and TOR of KMU departments.
  • Develop proper curriculum to meet all requirement of higher education.
  • Coordination between various Medical Universities inside/outside the country.
  • Database system establishment for students’ records.
  • Application of PBL & CBL in different faculties.
  • Publishing the syllabus of all faculties in a booklet.
  • Providing appropriate audio and video system in classroom.
  • Internet connection in classrooms.
  • Establishing operation theaters for the following departments: Pediatrics surgery, Gyn/Obs surgery and Neurosurgery.
  • Standardizing the Abdominal Surgery Operation Theaters for university hospitals.
  • Providing text books, stationeries, printing and publishing facilities in order to standardize the learning material.
  • Providing equipments for different laboratories which are in need of (biochemistry, chemistry, forensic medicine).
  • Improving/expanding the research center (technically and financially).
  • Conducting training workshops on research methodologies.
  • Establishing good relation/coordination with MoPH.
  • Establishing the computer department and pediatric dental department.
  • Coordination between clinic and Para clinic departments.
  • Recruiting new technicians for biochemistry, histology, pathology and Public health departments.
  • Improving and standardizing learning materials for faculties of medicine.
  • Developing/preparing learning materials for nursing faculty.
  • Paying more attention to teaching prevalent diseases to students and house job graduates.
  • Establishing an Information Technology center in KMU.
  • Providing updated learning/reference material for KMU library.
  • Providing shelves for students’ records.
  • Providing transportation facilities for students for their practical work to hospitals.
  • Provision of student’s database.
  • Renovating two teaching hospitals.
  • Renovation of KMU departments.
  • Renovation of KMU building (office administration, classrooms, laboratories etc)
  • Renovation of KMU auditorium.
  • Construction of green house for Maiwand Teaching Hospital.
  • Providing medical equipments for teaching hospitals.
  • Renovation of all departments, lanes and gardens of the university hospital (situated in university campus)
  • Building of mortician room.
  • Building the new pediatrics ward in Maiwand university hospital.
  • Repairing central heating system at the university campus.

 

Next Six Years:

  • Promoting the lecturers’ life condition, through providing houses, income and good salary scales.
  • Establishing dormitory for Medical University.
  • Operation room for cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Construction of new teaching hospital and polyclinic for out patient department (OPD) in order to facilitate the teaching of prevalent (Common) diseases for students and house job graduates.
  • Construction of the infection disease hospital in Ali Abad area.
  • Constructing buildings for stomatology clinics, faculty of nursing and gymnasium.


Next Ten Years:

  • Constructing buildings for each faculty.
  • Establishing university hospital for each faculty.
  • Hiring qualified lecturers and specialists in each faculty and university hospital.
  • Settling modern instruments to all sub departments with qualified personnel.
  • Annexing the provincial medical faculties to Kabul Medical University.
  • Establishing post graduate standard curriculum.

  • Next 3 years - 20%.
  • Next 6 years - 40%
  • Next 10 years - 50%


Masters’ degree holders:

  • Next 3 years – 160 (70.79%)
  • Next 6 years - 190 (84.07%)
  • Next 10 years – 226 (100%)


PhDs:

  • Next 3 years - 10 (4.42%)
  • Next 6 years - 30 (13.27%)
  • Next 10 years - 40 (17.69%)
